Jean Ramsey, 74, of Bowen died April 27, 2003, in her home.
She was born Sept. 27, 1928, near Denver, the daughter of Ervin and Opal Pearl Smith Akers. She married Robert H. Ramsey on May 17, 1946, in Bowen.
She is survived by four sons, Rod (Linda) Ramsey of Leroy, Russell (Beth) Ramsey of O'Fallon, Rocco (Chris) Ramsey of Bowen and Ryan (Becky) Ramsey of Bowen; one son-in-law, Don Bunnell of Bowen; two sisters, Marjorie Cramer of Bowen and Mildred Quivey of Arcola; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Ronelle Bunnell; one sister, Dorothy Lummis; and one brother, Jim Akers.
She graduated from Bowen High School in 1946. She was employed as the school librarian for the Southeastern School District for many years, retiring in 1993. She was a lifetime member of the MYN Card Club. She enjoyed going to ballgames, cooking for the entire family, especially her grandchildren, researching family history, playing the piano, reading and most of all spending time with her family.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (today) in the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.Thursday, May 1, in the Bowen United Methodist Church. Rev. Sandy Southard will officiate. Burial will follow in the Harmony Cemetery near Denver.
Memorials may be made to the Bowen United Methodist Church.
