And Leon Ramsey
Married in BowenMrs. Frances Phipps of Elvaston, daughter of J. A. Duffy of LaHarpe, and Leon Ramsey of Bowen, son of Mrs. A. A. Holmes of Bowen, were married in the chapel of the Bowen Methodist church, Saturday, June 17, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Clarence C. Young performed the ceremony.
Mrs. H. B. Nash, sister of the bridegroom, was the matron of honor and Clifton Duffy, brother of the bride, was the best man.
The bride was dressed in a printed chiffon voile dress, with a white hat and white accessories. She wore a corsage of yellow, pink and white roses.
The matron of honor wore a lavender two piece afternoon dress, also with white hat and accessories. Her corsage was pink roses.
Following the ceremony a wedding dinner was served at Hotel Iowa in Keokuk, Iowa.
The bride has been engaged in county and community activities, having recently resigned as executive secretary of the Hancock County Red Cross. The bridegroom is a Bowen farmer. The couple is at home in Bowen.
Other guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ramsey, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Ramsey and Samuel Ramsey, all of Bowen; Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Smith of Naperville, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Veach of Santa Ana, Calif., Miss Juanita Van Ostrand of Henry, Mrs. Clifton Duffy and H. B. Nash.

BOWEN, Ill. --- Frances D. Ramsey, 88, of Macomb, died at 7:55 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 9, 1994) in the Wesley Village Healthcare Center.
Born June 3, 1906, in La Harpe, she was a daughter of James and Anna Huston Anthony. She married Carl Phipps and he preceded her in death. She married William L. Ramsey in 1961. He died May 26, 1979.
Mrs. Ramsey spent most of her life in Hancock County and taught elementary school for several years.
Survivors include three step-sons, Robert Ramsey, G. L. Ramsey and Samuel K. Ramsey, all of Bowen; a stepdaughter, Doris Smith of Bowen; seven step-grandchildren; and 22 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bowen United Methodist Church by the Rev. Martha Scaff. Her body has been donated to Southern Illinois University School of Medicine for scientific study. There will be no visitation.
The Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb is handling arrangements.
