County Dies in Mo.Joel Millard Preston was born at Middle Creek, Hancock County, Illinois on January 11, 1860 and died at his residence near Newark, Missouri on July 16, 1940 at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 5 days.
He was the last surviving child of Joel Hargrove and Amanda Ferguson Preston. He was married on October 3rd, 1882 to Emma Belle Williams, daughter of Philip Davis and Margaret Dale Williams. To this union were born five children: Carman, who died in childhood, Dale, now Mrs. M. J. McEubyre, Frank, Doris, Ray Pason and Helen, now Mrs. Warren J. Watts.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Millard, Margaret, Mildred and DeWitt McEubyre; David, Carol and Mary Helen Watts; and Walter Joel Preston; and one great granddaughter.
As a young man he became a member of the Mount Pleasant Christian Church, and was a devoted member of the Newark Christian church for the past 33 years and served for many years as an officer of the congregation.
Following services at the Newark Christian church interment was in the family lot at La Harpe cemetery with brief services conducted by the Rev. Miniger of Shelbina, Mo. and the Rev. Moore of La Harpe.
Those attending the burial at La Harpe from here were Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Williams, Philip Williams, Mr. W. E. Miller and R. W. Ferris.
