MAURICE R. PHILLIPS

Aug. 11, 1915 -- Feb. 13, 2003

Maurice Richard Phillips, 87, of Ferris died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at the Fort Madison Health Center in Fort Madison, Iowa, of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 11, 1915, at the family farm in Wyaconda, Mo., the son of George Washington and Beatrice Foust Phillips.  On March 1, 1938, he married Dorothy Virginia Toben, and they were married for 64 years.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Barb (Chuck) Wilkens of Fort Madison, and Dorothy (Kramer) Smith of Bloomfield, Iowa; two sons, David (Terry) Phillips of Canton, Mo., and Rich (Barbara) Phillips of Lakewood, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Phillip George Bryant and Tom Bryant, Konnie Maskell, Deborah and Daniel Smith, Kathy Shriver, Nikki Broadfoot, David, Christy, Gregory, Ben and Kate Phillips; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Andrew Bryant, Janae and Aiden Maskell and Emilee Smith; one sister, Hazel Toben of Bensenville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

He graduated from Williamstown High School in Williamstown, Mo. in 1931.  He was a supervisor of Rock Creek Township and active with the Hancock County Board of Supervisors for 22 years.  He also worked with Brodie & Ufkes Auctioneering.  In addition to his work he was a volunteer for SHARE program and the Area Agency on Aging.  He was a member of the Burnside Masonic Lodge #683 A.F. & A.M., Burnside Chapter O.E.S. and the Quincy Consistory A.A.S.R.  He enjoyed his family, farming, livestock, and auctions.

A Masonic service was held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Neiser-Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 16, at Neiser-Printy Funeral Home.  Burial followed in the Kahoka Cemetery in Kahoka, Mo.

Memorials may be directed to the Hancock County Mental Health Center.

FERRIS, Ill. -- Maurice Richard Phillips, 87, of Ferris, Ill., died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at the Fort Madison Health Center in Fort Madison.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Neiser-Printy Funeral Home in Carthage, Ill.

Burial will follow in the Kahoka Cemetery, Kahoka, Mo., at 4:30 p.m.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.  A Masonic service will held at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Hancock County Mental Health Center.
