Dorothy Virginia Phillips, 88, of Ferris, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at the Fort Madison Care Center.
She was born Oct. 3, 1918, in Williamstown, Mo., a daughter of Ernest and Virginia Allen Toben. She married Maurice Phillips in Canton, Mo., on March 1, 1938. He died in 2003.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Chuck) Wilkens of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Dorothy (Kramer) Smith of Bloomfield, Iowa; two sons, David (Terry) Phillips of Canton and Rich (Barbara) Phillips of Lakewood, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Phillip George Bryant and Tom Bryant, Konnie Maskell, Deborah and Daniel Smith, Kathy Shriver, Nikki Broadfoot, David, Christy, Gregory, Ben, and Kate Phillips; eight great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Andrew Bryant, Janae and Aiden Maskell, Emilee and Grace Smith and Isaac and Emma Broadfoot; six step-grandchildren; and one brother, William Francis Toben of Mountain Grove, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maurice; three brothers; and one son-in-law, Leonard Bryant.
She graduated from Williamstown High School and from Carl Sandburg College in Carthage with her licensed practical nursing degree. She had worked as an LPN at Memorial Hospital in Carthage for 10 years. She was a member of the Ferris Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, and had served as a 4-H leader for 12 years. Her culinary talents were of great food, beautiful wedding cakes and candy. She enjoyed making porcelain dolls and sewing.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 24, at the Ferris Christian Church. Burial followed in the Kahoka Cemetery in Kahoka, Mo.
