BENTLEY.

Mr. R. P. Perry was born in Brown county, Ill., March  7th, 1853, and moved to this county in early life, where he resided until his death, which occurred on the evening of May 19, 1907, making him 54 years of age.  He was married to Miss Ardella Beyler, Dec. 20, 1877, and to this union were born four children, Otis P. and Homer C. died in infancy; Oliver and Frank with the mother survive him.  Mr. Perry united with the Baptist church at Middle Creek, about twenty years ago and remained a faithful and useful member until his death, and not only was he useful to his church, but to his community and county as well having served as supervisor for two years.  His was one of the lives that this old world is made better and brighter by their having existed, as he was never known to tire of doing good for others, often forgetting his own interests.  He was a true, loving husband, an affectionate father and a good neighbor, loved and respected by everyone.  It was indeed with heavy hearts that the large audience of friends assembled at the Middle Creek Baptist church, where the funeral services were conducted by Elder L. E. Frazee, May 20th, after which he was laid to rest in Harmony cemetery.  How sad it is to say this last good-bye, to think of his vacant chair and to listen in vain for the voice now stilled by death, and yet while our heads are bowed in sorrow and our hearts are filled with such bitter grief it is a comforting thought to know

He is freed form the toils and sorrows of earth,
His spirit has winged its flight
Across the dark valley and shadow of death
To the beautiful fields of light.

To the beautiful fields of light and life,
On the banks of that flowing river,
Where sorrow and death no more shall come,
    But bliss forever and ever.
