Olney Frank Perry, son of Robert Patterson and Ardella Belle Beyler Perry was born October 28, 1885, and passed peacefully away at his residence three miles east of Bentley, Ill., Tuesday evening, September 10th, 1929 at 7 o'clock at the age of 44 years.
Mr. Perry was the youngest of a family of four sons, two brothers Homer Claude and Otis Price dying in infancy. The surviving brother Oliver J., resides in Galien, Mich. The father died May 19, 1907.
Mr. Perry was married October 16, 1907 to Miss Nellie Blanche Burner, daughter of George S. and Susan Martha Fletcher Burner, Dr. Yutzy of Carthage performing the ceremony at the bride's home.
Soon after their marriage they moved to their present home, and their twenty-two years of wedded life were very happy years. They loved the company of young people and their comfortable home was the scene of many social gatherings of relatives and friends. Thus Frank was born, reared and spent his entire life on section 11 in Harmony township.
His mother was married to A. C. Vandeventer January 31, 1911. Mr. Vandeventer has been a true comrade and has given to them every comfort and care in every way he was able to give.
Mr. Perry always enjoyed good health until a little over a year ago, August 26, 1928 when upon the advice of his physician he entered a Macomb hospital for treatment, remaining until his dropsical condition was relieved. Last July he suffered a relapse, which was a gradual decline. His dear wife and mother gave to him their tenderest care unceasingly. D. W. Young an old friend of the family gave them every assistance the past year. All labored with tireless energy for his comfort, but no one understood better than Frank himself how hopelessly they labored. His departure is keenly felt by a host of relatives and friends.
He was a regular attend of the Bentley M. E. Sunday School and Church services, and gave generous to their support. He was also a member of Bentley Lodge I. O. O. F. of Carthage. A member of the school board twelve years, served his township as committeeman several years, was member of the A. H. T. A. of Middle Creek, serving five years as president and six years as vice president, and sent as delegate to state association a number of times.
Mr. Perry was a noble son, a devoted husband, a good neighbor, friend and citizen, his pleasing personality was ever felt by his associates.
Among the friends calling on Mr. Perry the day the summons came was Rev. Bert Hendrickson of Bushnell, a former pastor and friend. He asked Frank if he would like a word of prayer, saying "I have had so many pleasant visits in your home I can't leave without prayer." It seemed to the little family that the Lord had sent Rev. Hendrickson to aid Frank in just crossing over. It gave him hope, a wonderful possession, although it may flicker low in the gloom, it never goes out, but braves the darkness until comes dawn. It gave him trust, a steadfast trust. He had the attitude of mind which rejoiced in the reality of good everywhere present. His thoughts were centered on the ideals of good will toward his fellowmen.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Bentley at 2:00 oclock Thursday, September 12, Elder C. E. Webb officiating. The songs "Going Down the Valley One by One," "The Old Rugged Cross," "In the Sweet By and By" were sung by Frank Kimbrough, Edgar Slusher, Mrs. Harry Faulkner, Mrs. A. K. Turner. Casket Bearers were Charlie Kimbrough, Harry Wells, Harry Faulkner, Benj. McPherson, Willie McPherson, Ray Grove, S. W. Walton, Arthur Jenkins. Interment in Harmony cemetery under the auspices of Bentley I. O. O. F.
