Column 4Jessey J. Payne, 66, of rural Bucklin, a retired engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad, died Friday morning at the St. Francis Hospital in Marceline.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Larson-Scudiero Funeral Home in Bucklin with the Rev. Ed Proffitt officiating. Burial will be in Cash Cemetery east of Bucklin. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
Mr. Payne was born Nov. 27, 1907 in Macon County near Bucklin, the son of Dovie Leona Malloy and Jessey J. Payne Sr. He was married July 1, 1933 at Marceline to Georgia Fern Edie and they were the parents of 12 children.
Mr. Payne, who retired in November, was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Brookfield and of Bucklin Masonic Lodge No. 233.
Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Georgia Fern Payne of the home; seven sons, Jessey Wayne, John Martin and William Andrew Payne of Macon, Larry Eugene of Jacksonville, Fla., Gerald Dean of Excelsior Springs, Randy Leon and David Nelson Payne of Bucklin; five daughters, Mrs. Robert (Norma) Bunton and Mrs. Donald (Linda) Bunton of Macon, Mrs. John M. (Phylis) Jones of Port Royal, Va., Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Bromley of Cibolo, Tex. and Mrs. Jackie (Shirley) Rufener of Anabel; one brother, Lawrence Payne of Brookfield; one sister, Mrs. Grace Green of Marceline; and 20 grandchildren.
He had been preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, John, Henry, Dewey and Joe York and Edgar Payne, and two sisters, Mrs. Flossie Admire and Mrs. Martha Ann Schneider.
The body will lie in state at the funeral chapel until the hour of the services.
