KEITH PATTERSON, 42, Democratic candidate for nomination as sheriff, was born on a farm east of Burnside in Pilot Grove township.  He is the son of James L. and Jessie Patterson.  He attended grade school at Oak Grove and high school at Burnside and LaHarpe, graduating from there in 1934.

He married Anna Carnes of LaHarpe in 1937.  They have three sons.  He started into the electrical trade about the time the local REA co-op was formed.  Except for a three year period spent operating a farm near Burnside he has spent most of his adult life in the electrical trade, moving several times to other states for employment, but says he has spent much the greater part of his life in Hancock county.  He lives now in LaHarpe and works in Mason City, Ia.  Of this he says:

"Due to circumstances, work at the present takes me so far from home that it's very hard for me to meet people of the county I've never met before.  This will change soon, however, and then I'd like to meet a lot of new friends and keep them -- win or lose."

This community was deeply shocked to hear of the death of Keith Patterson, Tuesday, June 14, caused by heart attack.  He was born at the family farm, near LaCrosse, March 25, 1916, and lived most of his life time in this area, except for spending the past few years in Tucson, Ariz.  The family had returned to a home in LaHarpe just seven months ago.
