Reed Patterson Killed

The sad news was telegraphed friends Sunday that Reed Patterson had fallen from an engine near Colmar that morning and been killed.  He had been in Galesburg several months, in the employ of the C. B. & Q., working in the yards, but had gone out that morning as fireman on an extra, going south on the Quincy branch.  He was missed near Colmar and a search made for him resulted in finding his body on the Colmar bridge.  It was taken to Colchester where an inquest was held.  There was no one who saw the accident.  The remains were brought here Tuesday on the 11 o'clock train, where the relatives from LaCrosse and other places met the funeral party.  Services were held at the Christian church, Eld. Jordan officiating and the burial was in La Harpe cemetery.

Reed Patterson was a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Patterson, of LaCrosse vicinity; born near LaCrosse, December 5, 1877, and died March 3, 1912, aged 35 years, 2 months and 28 days.  He was married to Miss Annie Effenbeck, July 7, 1900.  The wife and a daughter, Opal May, survive him, and the father and mother four brothers, C. C., J. L. and O. C. at LaCrosse, W. E., of Ipava, and one sister, Mrs. James Fortney, of this city.  Four sisters and two brothers are dead.

Among those who were here to attend the Reed Patterson funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Effenbeck of Wilton Junction, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. John Sullivan and son Carl, Charles Parsons and Mrs. Alice Patterson of Burnside, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fortney of LaCrosse, a brother, W. E. Patterson, wife and daughter Blenna of Ipava, his parents, W. J. Patterson and wife, and three brothers, C. C., J. L. and O. C. Patterson, of LaCrosse.
