CPL JOSHUA D. PALMER

July 7, 1980 -- Nov. 8, 2004

Cpl. Joshua Douglas Palmer, 24, of rural Blandinsville, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, near Fallujah, Iraq, where he was serving with the US Marine Corps, Engineer Company C.

He was born July 7, 1980, in Carthage, the son of Doug and Carol Hasten Palmer.

He is survived by his parents of rural Blandinsville; one sister, Amanda Palmer of Fountain Green; his grandparents, Barb and Rex Stewart of LaHarpe and Hollis Palmer and Donna Burnett of Burlington, Iowa, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carl Junior and Mabel Hasten.

He attended grade school in LaHarpe and graduated from LaHarpe High School in 1999.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1999 and served until 2003.  On June 30, 2004, he re-enlisted in the USMC Reserves and was serving with Engineer Company C, based in Peoria.  His unit was deployed to Iraq in September.  He loved his family, motorcycles and working with his hands.  He attended the Abundant Life Church in LaHarpe.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the LaHarpe High School gymnasium with Pastors Greg Pratt and Don Miller officiating.  Burial, with full military honors, was in the McConnell Cemetery, rural LaHarpe.

Memorial contributions will establish a fund, in his memory, to be used for various needs in LaHarpe and surrounding communities.
