Grover C. Murphy, 91, a resident of River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa, and formerly of rural Carthage, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, in Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
He was born March 18, 1914, in Williamstown, Mo., a son of George and Florence Foust Murphy. On Oct. 10, 1941, he married Cornelia "Connie" Brumby in Hannibal, Mo.
He is survived by one daughter, Judith Cuba of Bushnell; four sons, James (Karen) Murphy of Lee's Summit, Mo., Donald (Alicia) Murphy of Keokuk, Iowa, Dennis (Cindy) Murphy of Fremont, Iowa, and Richard (Gay) Murphy of Eddyville, Iowa; six grandchildren, April Murphy, Daniel Cuba, Ellen Foster, David Cuba, Ricky Murphy, and Emileigh Murphy; nine great-grandchildren, Allie Brookhart, Austin and Logan, Matthew, Paige and Dakota Cuba, Levi, Luke, and Emily Foster; and one sister-in-law, Mary Murphy of Lewistown, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and two brothers, Norval and George Ray Murphy.
He went to school in Clark County, Mo., and helped farm the family land. In 1932, he left Missouri to help farm for the Webbs in Nauvoo. In about 1936, he moved to the Denver area where he lived and farmed the rest of his life. He was a member of the Plymouth Assembly of God Church and the Hancock County Farm Bureau. He loved to farm, garden, play cards, pitch horseshoes, make yarn balls and footstools. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 22, in the Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage. Rev. Tom Spain and Rev. Craig Burton officiated. Burial followed in the Harmony Township Cemetery, east of Bentley.
Memorials have been established in memory of Grover C. Murphy.
