WILLIAM ANDERSON MOSLEY.

William Anderson Mosley, son of Winston R. and Rebecca Ann (Riggens) Mosley, was born Feb. 9, 1867, in Hancock township, Hancock county, Illinois, and passed away at Middle Creek in Carthage township, May 13, 1923, aged 56 years, 3 months and 4 days.

His mother and father departed this life many years ago.

On July 15, 1889, William was united in marriage to Miss Paralee Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Thompson, honored pioneers of this immediate neighborhood.

To this union eleven children were born, five of whom dying in infancy, left those surviving, in the order of their ages, as follows: Mrs. Arthur Orth, of Keokuk, Ia.; Melgar Anderson, of near Middle Creek; Mrs. Clay Reuck, of Middle Creek; Tylee, of Carthage, and Ollie and Harlie, at home.

The remaining immediate relatives of deceased are two older sisters, the elder, Mrs. Andrew Smith, living in Carthage, and Mrs. Douglas Smith, for many years residing in Hancock township.  There are eleven grandchildren.

William A. Mosley, like a great many other worthy characters of the world, was "to fortune and to fame unknown," but this delinquency, if such it may be termed, was more the result of an environment which he had no hand in creating, than of his own deliberate purpose or lack of purpose.  Be that as it may, his faults -- and we all have faults -- were measurably atoned for by a kindness of heart that responded in sympathy to others' troubles and a willingness of hand to essay their relief.

Though no trumpet heralded his coming, nor announced his going, in his limited earthly pilgrimage, wife, children and sisters suffer a sore bereavement in their loss of husband, father and brother, and his friends in their loss of a congenial companion.  And we hope that, in the realization that their loved one is forever freed from his thrall of suffering may vouchsafe them willing submission with Him who said, "Not my will, but thine be done."  A Friend.

The funeral service was held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, at Oak Grove Church, Rev. J. W. Porter officiating.  Burial at Oak Grove cemetery.
