Column 3Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Mosley, Keokuk, received their first information about how their son, Pfc. Otis F. Mosley, an infantry rifleman, lost his life in action in Italy on May 31, 1944. The information was contained in a sympathetic letter from Col. A. H. Manhart, commanding officer of the 135th Infantry of which Pfc. Mosley was a member. The letter declared that the Keokuk soldier was fatally wounded by enemy machine gunfire during an American attack at dawn on a German strongpoint in Italy. It added that appropriate religious services were held when his body was buried in an American cemetery in Northern Italy. "On behalf of the officers and soldiers of this command," Col. Manhart wrote, "I extend to you our deepest sympathy. Your son was an excellent soldier, a splendid man and an honored member of this old regiment." This soldier has relatives in Carthage.
