Mrs. Mae Mort
Dies in Peoria Hospital

Again the reaper of death came into our midst and took one from an earthly life to her eternal home.

Mae Gillenwater Mort, daughter of Jesse and Bertha Newman Gillenwater, was born in Hancock township, Hancock county, March 18, 1894, and passed away in a Peoria hospital May 18, 1950, at the age of 56 years and two months.

Her girlhood days were spent on a farm near Oak Grove, where she attended Oak Grove school, church and Sunday school.

Nov. 18, 1911, she was united in marriage to Wilburn C. Mort, who passed away Oct. 29, 1988.  To this union three daughters were born.  The eldest, Nelda Mae, passed away when nine days old.  She leaves two daughters, Mary Day, of Majorville, and Helen Logan, of Tennessee, Ill., two grandsons, Jimmy Day and Dennis Wayne Logan, two sisters, Mrs. Lula Belknap and Mrs. Hazel Agnew, of Carthage, several nephews and nieces.

As a mother, Mae was kind and devoted, not only willing to minister to the wants of her immediate family, but to others as well.  As a friend, she was loyal and true.  As a neighbor, she was sociable and generous, always anxious to share with them the things that came into her life.

She had been in failing health for the past two years and was cared for by her daughter, Mary, and husband.  Only the past two months were they unable to give her the care she needed and she was taken to a hospital.  She was a member of the Majorville social club.

     Sleep on, dear mother;
          Take thy rest.
     God called thee home--
          He thought it best.

Funeral services were held at the Majorville church Sunday afternoon, May 21, at 2 o'clock, Rev. Louderman, of Colchester, officiating.

Herbert Hulson, accompanied by his wife at the piano, sang "In the Garden", "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer."

Pallbearers were Faye Brooks, James Whitten, Harry Spangler, Harley Parker, Frank Peck and Guy Garrison.

Burial was in Majorville cemetery.
