April 7, 1986Jay Mendenhall, Bucklin, Dies at 86
Services for Jay B. Mendenhall, 86, Bucklin, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Louis V. Scudiero and Sons Funeral Home, Bucklin, with the Rev. Max Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the Bucklin Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. Mendenhall died Saturday at Pioneer Health Center, Marceline, where he had been a resident since Jan. 19, 1981.
He was the son of Howard Francis and Elnora Bell Dowell Mendenhall, born June 22, 1899, in Macon County five miles northeast of Bucklin.
On Sept. 4, 1920, he married Erma Ellen Cross in Macon County. She died Dec. 10, 1984.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Albert Wayne (Marceda) Switzer, Bucklin; two brothers, Ray Mendenhall, Marceline, and Harold Mendenhall, Santee, Calif.; four grandchildren, Patricia McCarty, North Kansas City, Mrs. John (Janice) Wolfe, Lee's Summit, Mrs. Roy (Brenna) Ehrett, Raytown, and Randall Dean Switzer and wife Shelly, of Bucklin; two great-grandchildren, Paula McCarty, Kansas City, and Gabriel Dean Switzer, Bucklin; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; a grandson, Bruce Wayne Switzer; seven brothers, Herbie, Oscar, Angus, Carlos, Roy, Clint and Clyde Mendenhall; two sisters, Gladys Bevan and Snoda Heptonstall.
He was a life-long area resident and member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church northeast of Bucklin. He retired in 1964 as carpenter in the Bridge and Building Department of the Santa Fe Railway.
Visitation is in progress at the Scudiero Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening.
The family has suggested memorials to the Bucklin United Methodist Church.
