DEATH OF W. O.
MECUM JAN. 31

Bowen Man Buried In The
Harmony Cemetery. -- Born
In Schuyler

Wilbourn Owen Mecum, son of James Madison and Verlena Mecum, was born in Schuyler Co., Illinois, Feb. 14, 1865, and died at his home near Bowen, Jan. 31, 1929, aged 63 years, 11 months and 15 days.

In 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Tucker, to which union were born three children, Verlena, Pearl and LeoPearl preceded her father in death just three days.

During his life he showed the attitude of a friend and neighbor, thereby winning the friendship and respect of all good men who knew him -- a lover of good men, a worshipper of God.  He united in the Master's service with Smyrna church of Primitive Baptists at Bentley, Ill., in February of 1904, one month later removing his membership to Middle Creek church of the same faith, where he remained a faithful, devoted member until death.

His wife and one daughter, Mrs. Verlena Hankins, of Bentley, Ill., and his one son, Leo, together with two brothers, Louis, of Bowen, and Austin of Macomb, and many other relatives mourn his departure.

Funeral services were conducted at the Primitive Baptist church in Bentley by his pastor, Elder C. E. Webb of Bentley in the presence of a very large assembly of his church brethren, neighbors and friends, all of whom extend to the bereaved family their most sincere sympathy.  The body was laid in the Harmony cemetery to await the triumphant coming of Jesus.
