MARRIED FIFTY

Meaux Celebrated
OccasionMr. and Mrs. D. D. Meaux of this city celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary quietly at their home in this city yesterday, Nov. 26th.
They were married at the home of her brother, John F. Mosley, then located on East Buchanan street in Carthage, Nov. 26, 1885, Judge Wm. R. Hamilton officiating.
Mrs. Meaux is the youngest and only surviving member of a family of ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. Amstead Mosley, her birthday being Dec. 9, 1857. The Mosley homestead was in Hancock township.
Mr. Meaux, one of a family of eight children, was born June 1, 1853, in central Kentucky, near Lawrenceburg. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel B. Meaux.
At the time of their marriage he was teacher at Oak Grove, where they resided until moving to Carthage in the fall of 1905. He continued his profession of teacher until he retired some years ago, having taught for thirty years -- three in Kentucky.
Mr. Meaux has taken some part in local politics, having served as public administrator, collector, justice of the peace and town clerk.
There are three children: Vivian, at home, Carlisle, of Chicago, and Roy of Keokuk, and one grandson, Roy, Jr., of Keokuk.
The family are highly respected and have many friends and relatives in this community.

DIED ON FRIDAY;
FUNERAL TUESDAYMrs. Dennis D. Meaux, of this city, died at her home here on Friday morning, June 9, 1939, at 5:30 o'clock aged 82 years.
Amanda Ellen Mosley was the daughter of Armstead and Nancy Mosley, early pioneers from Kentucky, and was born Dec. 9, 1857, on a farm ten miles east of Carthage. She was the last surviving member of a family of ten children.
On Nov. 26, 1885, she was married to Dennis D. Meaux, a well known school teacher, their golden wedding being observed in 1935.
To this union were born three children, Vivian V., her mother's constant companion and nurse; Carlisle of Chicago, and Roy L. of Keokuk. There also survives a grandson, Roy L. Meaux, Jr., of Keokuk, Ia. Mr. Meaux passed away Feb. 20, 1936.
Mrs. Meaux was baptized in the Christian faith early in life, and has since been a faithful member of that church.
Mrs. Meaux was of an early family of distinction and in her conversation and her life she reflected the high ideals and breeding of her Kentucky ancestry. She was faithful and true to her home and friends. A good woman has gone to her reward.
The funeral was held yesterday at the Elms, at 2:00 o'clock p. m., with interment at Oak Grove cemetery. The Rev. Fred Nichols officiated.
