Harold D. McLellan Jr.

Sept. 6, 1933 -- Oct. 30, 2001

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Harold D. McLellan, Jr. 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, October 30, 2001, in his home.

He was born September 6, 1933, in Council Bluffs, the son of Harold and Elsie Mingus McLellan.  He married Wilmetta Kappmeyer in June of 1955.  They divorced in 1975.  He married Pamela K. Weaver on August 20, 2001.  She survives.

Additional survivors include: his mother of Keokuk; four daughters, Lori Jo (Nick) Otto of Urbandale, Sandra Leigh (Chris) Mellott of Houston, Texas, Kathleen Ann (Chuck) Avey of Casey and Sheryl Lynn McLellan of Cedar Rapids; a stepson, Steven (Brenda) Weaver of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; a sister, Rita Bryant of Keokuk; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Vivian DeWaters and Maxine in infancy; his first wife in 1998; and two brothers-in-law, Gaylord Bryant and Elmer DeWaters.

He graduated from Keokuk High School in 1951.

Mr. McLellan joined the United States Navy in 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict.  He was entitled to wear the Navy Air Medal with one gold star, along with National Defense, China Service and Good Conduct.

He entered Fairbury College in Nebraska in June of 1955 and received his diploma in pre-secondary education.

Mr. McLellan was employed by Rock Island Railroad as a switchman-yardmaster from 1957 to 1980, retiring as conductor, at Iowa Northern Railway, where he worked from 1987 to 1990.  He was an ASA Umpire from 1960 to 1985 and was inducted into the Iowa Hall of Fame in 1986.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Private burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.

A memorial fund has been established.
