LAWRENCE W. McCONNELL

March 20, 1933 -- Feb. 13, 2004

Lawrence W. McConnell, 70, of Burlington, Iowa, formerly of Danville, Iowa, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at the Great River Medical Center in Burlington.

He was born March 20, 1933, in LaHarpe, the son of Kenneth H. and Gladys L. White McConnell.  On June 20, 1953, he married Erma Peck in Dothan, Ala.  She died July 3, 1989.

He is survived by his friend, Marjorie Goodwin of Burlington; two daughters, Teri Dianne Tavares of San Diego, Calif., and Tami Kay Tangonan of St. Louis, Mo.; one son, Lawrence Wayne McConnell of South Carolina; seven grandchildren and one brother, Kenneth "Kay" McConnell of rural LaHarpe.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Mark McConnell; and his parents.

He graduated from LaHarpe High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War.  He owned and operated McConnell Electric in Danville for over 30 years.  He was the track electrician at 34 Raceways in West Burlington for many years.  He enjoyed hunting, had served as a 4-H leader, and was a member of the NRA and the Long Creek United Methodist Church near Danville.

There will be no visitation.  Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20 at the McConnell Cemetery near LaHarpeRev. Richard Latta will officiate.  Military honors will be given by the LaHarpe American Legion.

A memorial fund has been established for the Long Creek United Methodist Church.  Contributions may be left at the graveside service or mailed to Banks & Beals Funeral Home, P.O. Box 503, LaHarpe, Ill., 61450.
