JOHN WESLEY McCONNELL

John Wesley (Wes) McConnell Sr., 86, of Carthage, died at the Hancock County Nursing Home Monday.

He was born March 17, 1896, in Fountain Green, the son of Ralph and Annie Anderson McConnell.  On March 28, 1956, he married Pearl Yetter who survives.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.  He belonged to the Fountain Green Presbyterian Church, Military Tract Barracks No. 2557, LaHarpe American Legion, and the Carthage VFW.

Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Mrs. William (Mary Helen) Shoemaker of Torrington, Wyo., Mrs. E. D. (Virginia) Fossey of Moab, Utah, and Mrs. Robert (Jane) McDaniel of Carthage; four sons, Clyde of Carthage, Robert of Keokuk, Bill of Burnside, and John of Maquon; three brothers, Fay and Milton, both of Prole, Iowa and Wayne of Fountain Green; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Neiser Funeral Home in Carthage with the Rev. Vernon Stout officiating with interment in McConnell Cemetery at Fountain Green.  Memorials may be made to the Fountain Green Presbyterian Church or the Hancock County Nursing Home.
