Extended Illness

Mrs. Charles A. McConnell aged and respected citizen of Fountain Green passed to her eternal home at 3 o'clock, January 18, 1943 after an illness of almost nine months.

Frances Ethel Brant, daughter of Conrad and Mary Miller Brant, was born November 20th, 1859 in Fulton County, Pa., near McConnellsburg.  She was one of a family of twelve children.

In March 1884 she came to Illinois with Mr. and Mrs. Jones and made her home at the McConnell hotel in Fountain Green.  On December 15, 1887 she was married to Charles A. McConnell of Fountain Green.

To this union were born three children, Hazel, wife of Russell Knoedler of Artesia, New Mexico; Alexander and Kenneth of Fountain Green.

Mrs. McConnell was a faithful and devout member of the Presbyterian church of Fountain Green for over 57 years.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, her three children and seven grandchildren.  Also two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Montague of Burnt Cabins, Pa., Mrs. David Anderson of Harrisburg, Pa., Harry Brant of New Enterprise, Pa., and Scott Brant of Clay Center, Kansas.

My mother's hands are fashioned as
       if God
Somewhere had found and touched
       and made them so.
From humblest pattern, cupped and
full of life as is the sod,
That I might know my mother's
       tireless hands
And find them beautiful.

Funeral services for Mrs. McConnell were held at the Presbyterian church in Fountain Green Tuesday afternoon, January 19, at 2:00 o'clock, the Rev. T. S. Roberts of Macomb officiating.  Mrs. George Latherow and Mrs. Chester Callihan sang "Abide With Me," and "The Christian Prayer," Miss Martha Walker, accompanist.  Burial was in McConnell cemetery, the pall bearers being George, Cliff and Brice Latherow, Frank Law, J. Mac Hobart and Allen Geddes.
