ANNIE McCONNELL

Mrs. Ralph McConnell passed away at her home in Fountain Green township, Feb. 8th 1927, aged 54 years, 8 months and 7 days.  The coming of this message, which saddened many hearts, was not unexpected. For long months this beloved woman has lingered near the borderland, enduring patiently days of distress, and nights of suffering.  The summons brought rest, relief and most surely a rich reward.

Annie Christine Anderson was born in Copenhagen, Denmark June 1, 1872.  In early girlhood she journeyed with relatives to New York City, where she came to know the late Mrs. Jennie Hopkins Seibold, and in 1890 accompanied her to Fountain Green as companion and helper.  Here she met and married Ralph McConnell, the wedding taking place Feb. 14, 1892.

She was been a most faithful and efficient helpmeet.  Nine children were born to them.  One son, Clyde, just entering manhood, was a victim of the para-typhoid scourge in 1920.  There remain with the husband to mourn their irreparable loss, two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Hasten of this community and Mrs. Helen York of Elpaso, Ill., also six sons, Milton and Fay of Indianola, Iowa; Wesley of Tennessee; Gay, James and Wayne, who are yet in the home, and during the dear mother's long invalidism, have been most kind and constant in their tender ministry, giving her all the comfort and care it was in their power to bestow.  Medical aid and skilled nursing have been enlisted in an effort to accomplish the hoped for recovery.  While the family's deepest gratitude goes out to the well-deserving friend and neighbor, Mrs. Alice Yager, whose daily endeavors brought a supply of help and cheer which cannot be estimated.  There also remain eleven grandchildren, and two brothers, Henry Anderson of Des Moines, Ia., and Walter of Detroit, Mich., who complete the circle around which this dear woman's affection most strongly centered.

She was indeed a splendid mother, and leaves a beautiful memory to these sons and daughters, she so carefully trained.  They have in turn, brought into her life a loyal devotion which greatly blessed and enriched it.

Mrs. McConnell's chief characteristics were an abundant supply of courage an optimistic outlook on life, and a large fund of humor, all combining to make her very lovable and a welcome addition to any social circle.  It mattered not if her own skies were clouded, she still radiated sunshine and good cheer.  Those who knew her best, knew that the secret lay in an unfailing faith in her Heavenly Father and an abiding trust in his power to strengthen and sustain.  There was thus implanted in her heart a peace and hope that nothing could destroy.

She was carefully trained by devout christian parents, and was early confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and in later years united with the Presbyterian church of Fountain Green.

May the love and care of the God she served, be around and about those she held so dear, so leading and guiding them in the ways of truth and right that in the after while they may meet this dear mother again in that home she has entered, and most surely been welcomed with the well done good and faithful servant.      M. W. B.

Funeral services were held at the home Friday 11 a. m., Rev. Kittlekamp officiating.

A choir composed of Mesdames Kate Miller, Helen Wright and Messrs. Leland Hobart and Clem Duffy, sang "Asleep in Jesus," "Shall We Gather At The River," and "We're Going Down the Valley."  The six sons acted as pallbearers.  Burial in McConnell cemetery.
