OSKALOOSA -- Edwin Malloy, 91, of Oskaloosa, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oskaloosa.
Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, June 14, at the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon with Pastor David Pinkerton officiating. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, June 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mahaska County Hospice. Edwin D. Malloy, son of Ernest and Zylpha (Stanley) Malloy was born on May 30, 1919, in Lynnville. He was a 1937 graduate of New Sharon High School. After high school, Ed worked for Morrell's in Ottumwa and Eclipse Lumber Company in Shell Rock, as a manager. On March 4, 1941, Ed was united in marriage to Nadine Linsted in Kirksville, Mo. To this union two children were born, Sheryl and Marilynn. Ed entered the U.S. Army in October of 1942 and was honorably discharged in January of 1946. He worked for Sears Farm Store in Oskaloosa and Bankers Life Insurance in Ottumwa. Ed started Malloy Mobile Homes in Oskaloosa in the late 1950s, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and having coffee time with friends at McDonalds and Wendy's. Ed was a member of the Harry L. Anderson American Legion Post 34 and the Farm Bureau.
His memory is honored by his wife of 69 years, Nadine, of Oskaloosa; two daughters, Sheryl Bates, of Atlanta, Ga., and Marilynn (Richard) Read, of Rockton, Ill.; three grandchildren, Dana Williams, of Atlanta, Ga., Heather (Matthew) Jonke, of Milwaukee, Wis., and Christina Read, of Chicago, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Hampton Williams and Natalie Jonke; three sisters, Gelenne Rassman, of Hot Springs, Ark., Linda Farquaher, of Cedar Rapids, and Marilyn Malloy, of Cedar Rapids.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Zylpha Malloy; a granddaughter, Debra Bates; two brothers, Jack Malloy and Bill Malloy and two sisters; Donna Woods and Diane Lehman.
