Rolandus Clinton Maberry, oldest of five children of Joshua Patterson and Susan (Helms) Maberry, was born in Floyd county, Virginia, on December 9, 1868, and passed away at his home three miles west of Augusta, Ill., on Saturday, May 23, 1936, aged 67 years, 5 months and 14 days.

In 1871, while he was still quite young, the family came to Hancock county and settled temporarily on the Perry Scott farm about three miles northeast of Denver, and he has continuously lived in Hancock county since that time.  For fourteen years the family lived in several different homes, spending a few years of this time near Basco and Warsaw and the rest in the Denver community.  Most of his school days were spent at Liberty school.  In 1885 the family moved to the Hammond farm located one and one-half miles north-east of Denver, where he resided for forty-four years, a successful farmer and a valuable upright citizen of the community.  For the past seven years he has lived in the present home, which he bought in the fall of 1928.

In October, 1908, he was married to Miss Delia Flynn of Carthage.  To this union were born two children, Mary Helen and Leo Clinton, who were left motherless in September 1913.  The family was kept together in the home with the aid of housekeepers until his marriage on July 1, 1915, to Miss Maggie Kettenring of Bowen, who has been a loyal companion and a faithful mother to his children.  To this union was born a daughter, Martha Ruth.

He has been in failing health for some time, having been confined to the bed for about four weeks.

A brother, Charles and a sister, died at an early age.  Another brother, Arthur Lee preceded him in death on November 9, 1935.  Surviving are the widow, the three children; a brother, Walter Hamilton Maberry of New Kensington, Pa.; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends by whom he will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held at the Denver Christian church Monday, May 25, 1936, at 2:00 p. m., the pastor, Rev. W. A. Taylor, having charge of the services.  A quartette, composed of Mrs. Fred Walton, Mrs. Ted Duffy, S. W. Scott and H. L. O'Brien, accompanied by Miss Anna Mae Sowder, sang two songs: "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross."  Pall bearers were D. S. Lyon, F. M. Walton, S. G. Fleming, W. E. Scott, L. S. Massie and E. C. Grove.  Burial was in Harmony cemetery.
