DEATH OF WILLIAM LONG.

William Long of Adrian, died at the state hospital in Bartonville, Monday, aged 80 years.  Mr. Long, who was formerly from the Fountain Green neighborhood, has resided in Adrian and conducted a blacksmith shop for fifteen years or more.  He has been an invalid for some time and was at Bartonville two weeks.

Mr. Long is survived by his widow, who was Belle Young of near Burnside before marriage; also two sons, Preston Long, who resided with his parents, and Harry of Ft. Madison.

The funeral will take place from the Christian church at Adrian, Wednesday at 10 o'clock a. m.  Burial at McKay cemetery.

Fountain Green

FOUNTAIN GREEN, Aug. 22. ---

We were sorry to learn of the death of Will Long of Adrian, which occurred a little over a week ago, after a long decline in health and a prolonged period of invalidism.  Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Adrian last Wednesday morning, and were attended by the following Fountain Green people: Mr. and Mrs. Gabe Ebert, Mrs. Etta Long, Mrs. Cora Long, Mrs. Maude Murtland, Guy Ebert, Mrs. Sade Hippett, Mrs. Minnie Geddes, Mrs. Julia Hamrick and Frank HobartMr. and Mrs. Long and family lived in Fountain Green for many years, Mr. Long being engaged in the blacksmith business.  Both he and Mrs. Long were well known and respected by our people.  We extend sympathy to Mrs. Long and the two sons.

ADRIAN, Aug. 23. -- Wm. Long, son of Adam and Kathryn Long, was born Nov. 8, 1853, at Clinton, Iowa, and passed away Aug. 13, 1934, aged 80 years, 9 months and 5 days.

He came with his parents to Illinois when he was one year old, and settled at Burnside, where he grew to manhood.

On Dec. 6, 1877, he was united in marriage to Isabell Young.  To this union were born four children.  A son and a daughter preceded him in death.

They lived for 18 years in Fountain Green, then moved to Carthage, afterward to Pontoosuc and Niota, and for the past fifteen years they resided in Adrian, where he engaged in his trade the blacksmith work.

He joined the church in Carthage when he was 43 years of age.  He was a member of the Modern Woodman and held office in the organization, also held the office of township collector creditably.  He suffered a stroke three years ago from which he never recovered, although given medical skill and care by his wife and sons, who did all in their power to alleviate his suffering.  Several weeks ago he was taken to the state hospital in Bartonville for treatment, where he passed away.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Prescott of Adrian and Harry of Ft. Madison.  Three grandchildren, Mrs. Erla Ricks of West Burlington, Ia., and Lorraine and Lyle of Ft. Madison, Ia.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. Fred S. Nichols, pastor of the Christian church in Carthage, were held Wednesday morning at the Christian church.

Miss Alberta Pearson and A. S. Duncan sang Resting in the Shelter of His Love and The Old Rugged Cross.  Mrs. A. S. Duncan played.

The casket bearers were Messrs. A. C. Herbert, J. A. and J. D. Whitcomb, Chas. Quivey, A. R. Jones and Frank Grisham.  Burial in McKay cemetery.
