Green Citizen, DiesLewis Henry Londrie, second son of John and Mary Turner Londrie, was born in Beloit, Kansas, July 16, 1874, and came with his parents to Illinois when four years of age and has lived the remainder of his life on the old home farm near Fountain Green, Ill. He passed away Monday morning, May 22, 1939, being 64 years, 10 months and 4 days of age.
On April 7, 1897, he was united in marriage to Miss Rosa Roberts and to this union eight children were born, namely: Clyde Raymond of near Carthage, Mrs. Dora Gipe, Mrs. Frances Covert, Lewis and Kenneth of Keokuk, Ia., Ivan, Lyle and Reva of Fountain Green.
Three brothers also survive: Alfred Londrie of Hamilton, Oscar of Joetta and Pearl of Oak Grove; one sister, Mrs. Lucy Harter of Baudette, Minn. A sister, Florence, and a brother, Howard, deceased.
There are also twenty-one grandchildren, who were a source of joy and comfort to him.
His father served his country through out the Civil War and received an honorable discharge and through him, Henry inherited patriotism, honesty, patience, endurance and a peace-loving, happy disposition.
Mr. Londrie had been strong physically during his life until a few months ago he was stricken with an illness that baffled medical skill and in spite of some hospital care and the untiring devotion of his wife and children in the home for many months he gradually slipped away to the "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."
He was a good neighbor and citizen with a kind heart, an active imagination and his hones life, full of hard work and many privations was paramount.
His labors are ended and there is an emptiness that we share with the beloved wife and children.
"The Lord gave and the Lord tak-
eth away. Blessed be the name of
the Lord,"
"Dear Father, thou hast left us,
And our loss we deeply feel,
But it's God that has bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.
Yet again we hope to meet thee
When the day of life is fled,
When in heaven in joy to greet
thee,
Where no farewell tear is shed."The funeral was conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Majorville church by Rev. Gillis with burial in the Majorville cemetery.
Favorite hymns were sung by a quartette composed of Kate Miller, Ruby Hobart, Clem Duffie and Arthur Spangler. Mrs. Adda Latherow presided at the piano. The pall bearers were Samuel Lenix, Lee Holt, Harley Parker, Morris Shepler, Tylee Adams and J. A. Duffy.
