DIED -- At his home, near LaCrosse, Aug. 6th, 1884, of an affection of the stomach, HAMILTON LIONBERGER, in the 66th year of his age.

Mr. Lionberger was born in Page county, Va., Sept. 2nd, 1817.  He was one of a family of eight children, five of whom are still living.  In the fall of 1835, when Hamilton was 18 years of age he came with his father's family to this state.  They moved all the way from Virginia here in wagons, being about two months on the road.  They started from Virginia on the 15th of September and about the 5th of November they arrived at Springfield, Ill.  The weather at this time becoming cold and the roads muddy, they stopped in Springfield and remained there during the winter, coming to this county the next spring in time to put in a crop.

He was married to M. A. L. Bainter Nov. 22d, 1852.  His widow and three children still survive him, one of the children having died in infancy.  His father and mother died about 15 or 20 years ago.  About 1850, during the gold excitement of California, he made a trip across the plains to that country; but returned the next year.  With this exception, he has always remained at home, attending diligently to the improvement of his farm.  About 30 years ago he became lame and for the last 15 years he has not been able to do any work.  With this exception he has enjoyed good health and has been a hard worker.  He was strictly honest and upright in all his dealings and kind and benevolent in his social relations.  In politics he was always a democrat.  He was a kind neighbor, a good citizen, and in his death, the country sustains a real loss.
