Column 4William Lenix was born near Rochester, Ohio, May 25, 1837. Died July 24th, 1907, aged 70 years and 2 months. He was the third son of James and Elizabeth Lenix. He came to Illinois when but a child, settling in Hancock county where he spent the remainder of his life. He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Yetter, Jan. 8, 1863. His wife lived but a short time after which he was again married Dec. 14, l871 to Miss Mary E. Barr. To this union were born three children, one son dying in infancy and Bernard Vane and Albert Earl are left to mingle their grief with the wife and mother. Mr. Lenix was an old pioneer settler of this vicinity and was greatly loved and respected by all his neighbors and friends. He also leaves to mourn his death two grandchildren, three brothers and one sister as follows: Joseph, of Carthage, Samuel, John and Jane, of this community. Mr. Lenix has been failing in health for 3 years, and for one year has not been out of the house only as he was taken out in an invalid's chair. He never complained but was always patient and cheerful and glad to see his friends when they called. He often expressed his desire to go at the Master's call and cheerfully submitted "to the will of Him who doeth all things well." Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, Ft. Green, Friday at 2 o'clock p. m., conducted by Rev. Love, whose discourse was based principally upon the beautiful teaching of the 23rd Psalm. His words were comforting and encouraging to all who heard them. A ladies quartette composed of Mrs. Love, Mrs. Ferris, Mrs. Gertie Brown and Mary Geddes rendered some excellent songs, after which the remains were laid to rest in the family burying lot in the Ft. Green cemetery.
Our sympathy is extended to the sorrowing wife and children. We noticed among relatives and friends from a distance were: Senator Berry, Mrs. Mary Campbell, Miss Nannie Barr, Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Pennock, R. M. Duffie, Ed Helfrich and possibly others, all of Carthage. The casket was covered with beautiful flowers, tokens of esteem by friends and relatives.
CARD OF THANKS -- We hereby extend our thanks and gratitude to the many friends and neighbors for all their kindness and assistance rendered us in our bereavement of our dear husband and father. Mrs. Mary E. Lenix and sons, Bernard and Earl.
