DELENA LEMLEY

Sept. 23, 1912 -- April 15, 1994

Delena M. Lemley, 81, of Carthage and a lifetime resident of Hancock County, died Friday, April 15, at the University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.

She was born Sept. 23, 1912, at her family home in rural Carthage, the daughter of Reuben and Nola November Ruddell Brown.  She married Oscar Lemley on Sept. 24, 1930, in Canton, Mo.  He died Sept. 17, 1973.

She is survived by three daughters, Geneva Phillips of Keokuk, Iowa, Mrs. Jerry (Edna) Price of Augusta, Ga., and Mrs. Denny (Viola) Allen; two sons, Leo Lemley of New London, Iowa and Oscar "Gene" Lemley of Oxford, Iowa; three brothers, Reuben Edward Brown of Carthage, Milerd Gene Brown of Carthage and Ira Brown of Basco; three sisters, Mrs. Earl (Jane) Davis of Altamont, Mrs. Bob (Geneva) Dulaney of Hamilton and Mrs. Bob (Irma) Fillmore of Colfax; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Freida Montgomery; two daughters, Dorothy Louise Lemley and Nola Marie Lemley; one son, Donald Leroy Lemley; one granddaughter and one great-grandchild.

She was of the Protestant faith.

Graveside services were held Monday at the Oak Grove Cemetery at rural Carthage with the Rev. Philip Nevius officiating.

A memorial has been established in her memory.

CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Delena M. Lemley, 81, of Carthage and a life-time resident of Hancock County, died Friday (April 15, 1994) in the University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa.

Mrs. Lemley was born Sept. 23, 1912, in rural Carthage, a daughter of Reuben E. and Nola November Ruddel Brown.  She married Oscar Lemley Sept. 24, 1930, in Canton, Mo.  He died Sept. 17, 1973.  She also was preceded in death by a sister, Freida Montgomery; two daughters, Dorothy and Nola Lemley; a son, Donald Lemley; a granddaughter; and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Lemley was of the protestant faith.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Carthage, by the Rev. Philip M. Nevius.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday in the Lamporte Funeral Home.
