Mildred Lucille Larson, 94, of Carthage, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
She was born Aug. 14, 1912, in Pilot Grove Township near Burnside, a daughter of Don C. and Zua Merrill Salisbury. She married John William Larson on May 9, 1931, at Nauvoo in "The Mansion House" on the Mississippi River. He died in 1976.
She is survived by three children, Donald Larson of Carthage, David (Karen) Larson of Carthage, and Virginia Lynn (Merrill) Pollock of Prophetstown; seven grandchildren, Michael (Laurie) Larson of Bozeman, Mont., Mark (Martha) Larson of Macomb, Brad (Dee) Pollock of Prophetstown, Randy (Kathy) Pollock of Prophetstown, Shawn Larson of Macomb, Shay Larson of Macomb, Shannon Larson of Urbana; 10 great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; one son, Carl William Larson; two devoted sisters, June and Virginia Walker; and two brothers, Everett and Herbert (Buck) Salisbury.
She attended Cottage Grade School and went three years to Burnside High School. She and her husband farmed and ran a dairy in the Elvaston community until they moved south of Burnside in 1944. They farmed there until his death. She then moved and stayed in Carthage. She became a member of the Burnside Christian Church in 1945. She was very active in church and community activities. She loved to dance, play croquet, and especially loved to play cards, which she was very good at. Her greatest love was just being around and entertaining her family and friends.
Funeral services were today, Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Burnside Christian Church in Burnside. Burial followed in the McKay Cemetery near Burnside.
