Column 1DEATH OF MRS.
KATIE KIMBROUGHOvercome by Heat, She Suffers
Stroke That Ends Her Life
Tuesday Morning. One of the saddest deaths The Republican is obliged to record is that of Mrs. Katie Kimbrough who was suddenly taken from her devoted and dependent family Tuesday morning, July 29, 1924.
Mrs. Kimbrough had been engaged in laundry work Monday and in the afternoon was so affected by the heat, increased for her by the nature of her work, she suffered a fainting spell, and later lapsed into unconsciousness, dying early the next morning.
Katie Hackett was the only daughter of Martin and Ann (Mellows) Hackett and was born in this city, May 4, 1878. She was married to Jack Kimbrough, Feb. 18, 1896, to which union were born five children, Martin, now employed by the Sugar Bowl, and who won a Carnegie award for his heroic attempt to rescue the little Dorsey girls from drowning; John, Mrs. Frances Yount, Edmund and Gertrude, all at home. Martin has been his mother's main stay and comfort. She is also survived by her brother, Ed Hackett, who is the fire truck driver for the fire department.
She was a devout member of the Catholic church.
Mrs. Hackett not only toiled ceaselessly for the support of her own family, but mothered the whole street. Her mother-in-law, several doors away, who has been such an invalid, knew the daily comfort of her ministrations. No appeal from a neighbor for help or advice was inopportune, or took too much time. She responded generously and efficiently to any opportunity to help others, and made up for lost time in her own plans, by working far into the night. There was the radiance of the elect about her personality and the whole community respected and loved her, and feels a deep sense of sorrow at her passing.
"Beautiful toiler thy work all done,
Beautiful soul into glory gone,
Beautiful life with its crown now
won---
God giveth thee rest."The funeral will be held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Thursday morning at 10:00 o'clock, Rev. F. B. Dickman to officiate. Interment at Moss Ridge.
Note: Katherine is buried in Calvary cemetery which is adjacent to Moss Ridge cemetery.
