Wanda Huston, 84, of rural Blandinsville, died Thursday, Nov. 28, at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
She was born July 13, 1918, near Fountain Green, the daughter of LeRoy and Stella Sibert White. On Sept. 10, 1943, she married Edward Huston in Macomb. He was killed in action during WWII on Nov. 18, 1944.
She is survived by one brother, Lawrence White of Blandinsville; one niece, Gaylee Asquith; five nephews, Kenneth (Beverly) McConnell of LaHarpe, Lawrence McConnell of Danville, Donald (Mabel) Deener, Conrad (Connie) Deener, all of Macomb, and Johnny (Judy) Asquith of Cheyenne, Wyo.
She was preceded in death by her husband; five sisters, Esther White, Gladys McConnell, Bessie Deener, Lois White, and Nellie Asquith and her parents.
She was a retired teacher who had taught for 31 years in rural schools and in the Carthage school system. She received her education in rural schools, attended the Fountain Green High School for three years and graduated from high school at the Western Academy in Macomb. She was a graduate of Western Illinois University. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Daughters of the American Revolution and the former Central Christian Church. She attended the Fountain Green Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her family, teaching and nature.
Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 2, at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester. Rev. Robin Thompson officiated.
A memorial fund has been established for the Fountain Green Presbyterian Church.
