Dorothy W. Huston, 88, of Carthage ,died at the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, of natural causes.
She was born in Chicago, the daughter of John L. and Gertrude Bell Sibley White on April 22, 1914, the day after Wrigley Field opened in Chicago. On Oct. 21, 1939, she married H. Lee Huston in Chicago. He died Jan. 3, 1986.
She is survived by one daughter, Amy Patricia (Mitch) Graham of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Michael Lee Huston of New Orleans, La., and John Tillis (Sherry) Huston of Carthage; one sister, Laura Theis of Tarzana, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Nathaniel (Dorothy) Huston, Abigail, Christopher, Zachary and Lowell Reeves Samuel Huston, Jennifer (Ryan) Van Horn, and Ashley Graham; one great grandchild, Emily Johannah Van Horn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Lee, her parents, and one grandson, Nicholas Dean Graham.
She attended Visitation High School in Chicago, graduating in 1931. She then attended Mundelein College in Evanston receiving her degree in English and drama in 1935. She served as the editor of Charm Magazine from 1944-1946, and had also been the president of the Peoria Diocesan Council of Catholic Women from 1970-1972. Locally she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.
A funeral mass was held Saturday, Dec. 21, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage.
A private family inurnment service will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Carthage at a later date.
Neiser-Printy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage.
