CARTHAGE -- Services for John W. Hurt, 79, of Carthage, who died Wednesday in Carthage Memorial Hospital, will be 2 p.m. Friday in Neiser Funeral Home here.
The Rev. Brad Newton will officiate and burial is in Franklin Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 tonight. Memorials may be made to the Seventh Day Adventists Church of Carthage of which he was a member.
He was born May 11, 1905 in Floyd County, Va., a son of Cornelius and Martha Hurt. He was a former maintenance man at Carthage College. He married Mabel Cox Nov. 5, 1930 in Macomb.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Donald N. of Basco and James C. of Quincy; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Pollock of Fresno, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.

CARTHAGE, Ill. -- John W. Hurt, 79, of 812 Center, Carthage, died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 22, 1984) in Carthage Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Hurt was born May 11, 1905, in Floyd County, Va., a son of Cornelius and Martha Hurt. He married Mabel Cox Nov. 5, 1930, in Macomb. She survives. Mr. Hurt was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Donald N. Hurt of Basco and James C. Hurt of Quincy; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Pollock of Fresno, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.
