DONALD HURT

Dec. 18, 1933 -- Dec. 30, 1993

Donald Neal Hurt, 60, of Basco, died Thursday, Dec. 30, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

He was born Dec. 18, 1933, in Carthage the son of John and Mabel Cox Hurt.  He married Clarine Berg on Aug. 16, 1953, at rural Carthage.  She survives.

He is also survived by his mother of Basco; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Marcy) Demint of Basco; three sons, Robert, Ronald and Mike, all of Basco; a brother, Jim Hurt of Quincy; a sister, Mrs. Dick (Mary) Pollock of Fresno, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father on Aug. 23, 1984, and a brother, John, Jr. at birth in 1931.

He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Carthage, the church council, the Basco Village Board, the Basco Activity Club and was associated with the Basco softball teams.

He had owned and operated the Basco Elevator in Basco for many years.  He was a member of the National Grain and Feed Association, the National Federation of Independent Businessman, Illinois Beef and Pork Association and a Kent Feed Dealer for over 40 years.

He was a graduate of Carthage High School and attended Carthage College for a year.  He had also served on the Warsaw School Board.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 2, in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Carthage with Pastor Alfred Kruse officiating.  Burial was held in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church or to the Basco Community Center.
