James H. Hull, son of Wm. Henry and Sarah Thrush Hull, was born at Payson, Ill., January 20, 1855 and departed this life after a long illness on July 29, 1931, at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 9 days.
During his young manhood he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Pennock. One son Harry Hull of Indianapolis survives this union.
On Dec. 24, 1906 he was united in marriage to Miss Dorcas Sherbine who survives him and gave him every possible attention and care during his long illness.
When he was yet a young man Mr. Hull left the farm and engaged in the mercantile business in Burnside at which place he also served as Post Master. Later he came to Carthage and engaged in the dry goods business for a period of 16 years. From here he went to Quincy where he engaged in the hotel business for five years. Twenty or more years ago Mr. and Mrs. Hull went to Blandinsville and have been engaged in conducting a hotel there most of the time since.
In early life Mr. Hull confessed his faith in Christ and united with the Christian church at Burnside, Ill. Since coming to Blandinsville he and Mrs. Hull transferred their membership to the Blandinsville Christian Church where they have served faithfully.
In 1882 Mr. Hull was initiated in the A. F. & A. M. lodge No. 683 at Burnside, Ill. He transferred his membership to Lodge No. 233 at Blandinsville in 1924. He was regular in his attendance and faithful in service to the lodge as long as his health permitted.
Last autumn Mr. Hull became a victim of intestinal flu. He declined steadily in health from the first and since last May has been confined to his bed definitely. He was a patient sufferer and never complained but was always appreciative of any attention he received. His faithful wife was almost constantly beside him.
Besides his faithful companion and son he leaves one brother Edgar Hull of Burnside, and four sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Zern of LaHarpe; Mrs. Emma Murphy of Girard, Kansas; Mrs. Sadie Burr of Dallas City, Ill.; and Mrs. Ida Liller of Mt. Victory, Ohio. Two grandchildren Virginia and Billie Hull of Indianapolis and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held from the Christian Church of Blandinsville Saturday at 2:30 p. m., conducted by the pastor Rev. F. W. Leonard, and the body was laid to rest in Glade City cemetery under the auspices of the Masons Lodge.
