Funeral services for Leland Sanford Hobart, 84, a former Carthage and Fountain Green resident, were held Saturday, June 20, at 2 p.m. in the Fountain Green Presbyterian church with the Rev. John A. Maier of Carthage officiating. Dr. M. H. Corbridge of Carthage sang The Lord's Prayer. He was accompanied by Mrs. Lowell Smith of Carthage. Casket bearers were Herbert VanDeventer, Russell Steinmetz, John M. Hobart, Arlin Day, Ricky Woods and Edward Day. Burial was in Majorville cemetery.
Mr. Hobart died Monday, June 15, in Dothan, Ala., in a nursing home where he had been a patient several months. He had made his home with his brother and sister-in-law in Dothan before entering the nursing home.
He was born in Webster Jan. 1, 1880, a son of Pardon and Florence McCumber Hobart. He was married to Ruby Day, who died Aug. 14, 1948.
Surviving are two brothers, Howard of Dothan and Hiram of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Mrs. Joe Cromwell of Seattle, Wash.; a niece whom he reared, Mrs. Herbert VanDeventer of Des Moines, Iowa, and other nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Will, Frank and Orin, and two sisters, Mrs. Ida Mosley and Mrs. Ruth Rings, preceded him in death.
