John M. Hobart

COLCHESTER, Ill. -- John M. "Mac" Hobart, 76, a retired carpenter of rural Colchester, died at 6:35 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 14, 1990) in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Mr. Hobart was born Aug. 24, 1913, in La Harpe, a son of Howard and Marguerite McConnell Hobart.  He married Mildred Klattenburg June 29, 1934, in Mount Sterling.  She died Dec. 23, 1983.

A carpenter, Mr. Hobart had been employed by the Western Illinois University at Macomb for 28 years, retiring in 1978.  He was a member of Fountain Green United Presbyterian Church, La Harpe Masonic Lodge 195 and Macomb Eagles Club.  He was reared at Fountain Green and had lived near Colchester for the past 28 years.

Survivors include a son, Donald Hobart of Berryville, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Kathleen) Monroe and Mrs. Russell (Marilynn) Steinmetz, both of Dothan, Ala.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hobart was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Banks and Beals Funeral Home in La Harpe by the Rev. Leo Hanks.  Burial will be in La Harpe Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight in the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children.
