MABEL K. HASTEN

Oct. 6, 1926 -- Oct. 19, 2004

Mabel K. Hasten, 78, of rural Blandinsville, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at her home.

She was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Webster, the daughter of Fred and Olive Yetter Hillers.  On Feb. 15, 1946, she married Carl Junior Hasten in Galesburg.  He died April 19, 2003.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Hasten of LaHarpe, Janet (Ron) Wear of Carthage, and Carol (Doug) Palmer of Blandinsville; two sons, Tom Hasten of LaHarpe and Jim Hasten of Burnside; seven grandchildren, Tom Wear of Blandinsville, Amy Brackenbury and Mike Wear, both of Carthage, Amanda Palmer of Fountain Green, Josh Palmer, serving with the Marines in Iraq, Carl and Kathryn Hasten of Chicago; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Edwin (Charlene) Hillers of LaHarpe.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

She attended Hobart Grade School and graduated from Blandinsville High School.  She lived on a farm her entire married life and worked with the family farm and cattle operation.  She also worked at the Dennis Chicken Factory in Augusta, as a supervisor and was an avid homemaker and enjoyed quilting with friends.  She was a dedicated Democrat and was on the election boards for many years.  She served as a deputy tax assessor and had worked at the Mary Davier Health Center in LaHarpe and in the home health field.  She was a member of the Liberty Club, the USA Club, and the Webster Club.  She was of the Methodist faith.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, with family meeting friend from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Banks & Beals with Rev. Lee Unger officiating.  Burial will be in the LaHarpe Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for St. Jude Children's Hospital or Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.
