EMERY LLOYD HARTWIG

Jan. 22, 1926 -- July 4, 2002

Emery Lloyd Hartwig, 76, a lifetime resident of Hancock County, died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at his home in Hamilton.

He was born Jan. 22, 1926, near Burnside, the son of Emery Floyd and Forrest Lee Dill Hartwig.  He married Betty June Wildrick on Nov. 2, 1947, at the First Christian Church in Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife, Betty and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, LaVetta Markey and Margaret Roy; and one brother, Minor Hartwig.

He was a graduate of Carthage High School, Carthage.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.  He was a member of the Hamilton V.F.W. and the Burnside Masonic Lodge.  He was engaged in farming near Ferris for 20 years.  He and his wife built and opened the B & E Bottle Shop in 1976 in Hamilton and operated if for 10 years.  Later they started the Four Seasons Car Wash and the self storage facility in Hamilton.

He was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating.  He enjoyed playing cards, wood-working, and was an all around handyman.  He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.  He especially liked country and western music, playing the guitar and dancing.

Services were held Monday, July 8, at Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton, with Rev. Mark Horn officiating.  Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.  A flag presentation was held at the graveside by the Hamilton V.F.W. Post #5256.

A memorial has been established for the Hamilton V.F.W. Post #5256.
