Walter Hardy, 87, of Route 1 Carthage, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1987, in Keokuk (Iowa) Area Hospital.
Mr. Hardy was born Dec. 25, 1900, in Carthage, a son of Baptist and Ollie Hughett Hardy. He married Ruby McCallister Sept. 17, 1922. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Hardy was a farmer and a member of Middle Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Hancock Farm Bureau and the Grain Board.
Survivors include a son, Robert Hardy of Hamilton; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Bess) Stroker of Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Julian (Joy) Burkness of Pompano Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were one daughter, Virginia Gronewold; a son, Walter Hardy Jr., and a grandson, Tom Gronewold.
Services were conducted Tuesday in Neiser Funeral Home in Carthage by the Rev. James Fox. Burial was in Harmony Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Heart Association.
