Column 5Death of Mrs.
C. V. HardyMrs. C. V. Hardy, 64, of Bentley, died suddenly Wednesday morning, July 27, after several months of frail health. For some time Mr. Hardy had been preparing breakfast on account of his wife's health, and Wednesday morning he arose and prepared breakfast as usual, then with his son, Clifton, went out to repair a pump that Mrs. Hardy had asked them to fix. When they returned to the house at 8 o'clock, Clifton went to the bedroom door to call his mother and discovered she had peacefully fallen asleep.
Lucinda Dell Jones, third child and only daughter of Wiley and Mary Jane Jones, was born on the old homestead two miles east and three-fourths mile south of Bentley on June 17, 1868, where she spent her girlhood days, filled with duties of school and home.
She became the bride of Clement V. Hardy also of Harmony township, on Sept. 7, 1886. The fall of that year they went to housekeeping on their farm three-fourth mile east of Bentley where they resided until moving to a farm near Elvaston, residing there four years, then moving to a farm near Huntsville, residing there fourteen years. In the year 1919 they moved to Bentley where they have lived since.
To this happy union eight children were born, Clarence of Carthage, Clifton at home, Goldie, wife of Wilby Brown, of Macomb; Mintie, wife of Odis Ward, of near Industry; Bryan, of Burnside; Mary, wife of Louis Scheuermann, of Carthage; Helen, wife of Baird White, of near Plymouth; and Mattie, wife of Albert Scheurmann, of near Tioga.
Forty-three years ago, in March, 1889, Mrs. Hardy united with the Middle Creek Primitive Baptist church, the first of her family to unite with the church. Here she continued a loved member until death.
She is survived by her devoted husband and family, twenty-one grandchildren, one brother, C. B. Jones, one half sister, Mrs. Margaret Tucker, of Blandinsville, and a number of other relatives and friends. Two grandchildren and three brothers, W. J. Jones, J. M. Jones and Robert at a tender age preceded her in death.
The funeral services were held at the Primitive Baptist church Friday morning at 11 o'clock, Elder C. E. Webb, pastor, officiating. Interment in Harmony cemetery.
A quartette composed of Messrs. E. C. Slusher, F. L. Kimbrough, O. C. Gardner and Orville Prior, led by Elder Webb, sang Asleep In Jesus, and Going Down The Valley.
The casket bearers were: Messrs. E. K. Symmonds, J. O. Symmonds, Joseph Rice, F. L. Kimbrough, L. C. Jones and Albert Johnson.
Among those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Wilby Brown and family of Macomb; Mr. and Mrs. Odis Ward and family of near Industry; Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Hardy and sons of Burnside; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Scheuermann of Tioga; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hardy of Loraine, Adams county; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dickson, Mrs. Minnie Haynes, Mrs. Frona Wright and grandson and Mrs. Lober of Blandinsville; Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Symmonds of Dallas City.
The profusion of home-grown flowers were very beautiful. The husband and family have the deep sympathy of all in their sorrow. Thus passes a good mother, into the fullness divine.
