Funeral services for Roy C. Hallowell, 76, of LaHarpe were held Monday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. in the Radden Funeral Home, the Rev. A. G. Vail, pastor of the Christian church, officiating. Burial was in the LaHarpe cemetery.
Mr. Hallowell died at his home Saturday, Sept. 20. He had been in frail health for several years but not bedfast.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Nov. 23, 1881, he was a son of Charles A. and Melissa Rice Hallowell. He moved to Dallas City when a young boy and attended school there and in Quincy. He married Ollie Rhea of LaHarpe March 7, 1907.
Shortly after their marriage they moved to Quincy where he was manager of the Weems laundry for many years. While in Quincy he was a member of the Elks and Rotary clubs.
After moving to LaHarpe he served as postmaster from 1928 to 1936. He was secretary of the Golden Rule club, manager of the A-Mus-U theatre for a long period of time and bookkeeper for the LaHarpe Telephone company.
He was a member of the LaHarpe Union church.
Surviving are the widow; a son, Henry, of LaHarpe; a brother, George, of Melbourne, Fla., and two grandchildren.
