Ellis L. Haines, 82, of LaHarpe, died Monday, March 29, 1999, at his home. He was born July 26, 1916, near Blandinsville, the son of Revy and Minnie Tucker Haines. On Dec. 23, 1939, in Kahoka, Mo., he married Roberta Huston. She survives.
He is survived by his wife; two nieces, Sharon Guppie of Peoria and Carolee Sellers of Macomb; and two nephews, Kendall Haines of Cartersville, Ga., and Wendell Haines of Mackinaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Von and Voyd Haines.
He was a 1934 graduate of the Blandinsville High School. He had owned and operated Haines Trucking in Bushnell for 30 years. Following his retirement in 1978 he moved from Bushnell to LaHarpe. He was a member of the LaHarpe Masonic Lodge 195, the Quincy Consistory, the Peoria Shrine and the LaHarpe Union Church.
Services will be held at 10:30 Thursday, April 1 at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Bruce Goettsche officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home with family meeting friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Union Church.
