A Mother Called Home

We have not been called upon for some time to chronicle the passing of so good and greatly beloved a woman and one about whom centered so many loving interests as we now do in announcing the death of Mrs. Alzada C. Grove of St. Marys, on Jan. 28, 1914.  Mrs. Grove lived her long and useful life in this state and most of it in Hancock county.  That her life was lived nobly and well was demonstrated in the out pouring of loving regret and sorrow at her departure.

Alzada Cannon was the daughter of Richard and Sally Cannon and was born in Wayne county, Ill., Nov. 26, 1830.  When six years of age she came with her parents to this county which has since been her home.  Her mother died when she was 9 years old.  She was married Nov. 2, 1848, to Martin Grove, to which union were born ten children, three boy and seven girls.  Two boys and three girls preceded her to the home beyond.  She is survived by five children, Samuel R. of Quincy, Mrs. Charles Huddleston, Mrs. Wm. Fristoe, Mrs. John Fristoe and Miss Porter Grove, who made the declining days of her mother's life so comfortable and content.  Mrs. Grove suffered an accident about two years ago, in which her hip was broken, and she has been in declining health since.

Mrs. Grove is also survived by six grandchildren, Mrs. A. H. Kloehe of Chicago, Mrs. C. C. Walton, Mrs. Geo. Hummert of Quincy, Roy Grove of Quincy and Alva and Glenn Grove of Plymouth; and six great grandchildren, Helen Grove, Ruth, James and Elizabeth Walton, James Kloehe and Grace Hummert.

Many years ago she united with the Providence Primitive Baptist church and has ever since been a loyal member.

The funeral services were held at the home in St. Marys Saturday, Jan. 31, conducted by Elder L. E. Frazee.  Interment in the Grove cemeteryWilliam and John Fristoe, Chas. Huddleston and Roy, Alva and Glenn Grove were pall bearers.
