Mylon Wilburn Gronewold, 75, of Golden, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, in Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage. He was born April 13, 1924, in Gothenburg, Neb., the son of Bernhard "Ben" and Wilhelmina Franzen Gronewold. On March 4, 1945, he married Virginia Mae Hardy. She died June 15, 1972. He married Geneva Ideus Leenerts June 2, 1973. She died June 19, 1986. On June 6, 1987, he married Irene Flesner Parn. She survives.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Joel (Diana) Hamilton of Alamogordo, N.M.; Joanne Gronewold of Alamogordo; Mrs. Leroy (Janice) Huber of Quincy; one son, William (Sue) Gronewold of High Rolls, N.M.; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Marlene) Kanoy of Quincy; three brothers, Meinert (Kathryn) Gronewold, Max (Elaine) Gronewold and Morris (Karen) Gronewold, all of Carthage; 10 grandchildren, Rejean Gronewold of Chicago; Tom Gronewold of Hobbs, N.M.; Mylon and Mareka Pigrum, Nathan Telles, Ben Gaston and Janelle and Mariah Hernandez, all of Alamogordo; James and Jordan Huber, both of Quincy; and several step-children, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first two wives; a daughter, Carolann Gronewold; a son, Tom Gronewold; a brother, Milford Gronewold; and a granddaughter, Makayla Huber.
He was a 1941 graduate of Carthage High School. He and his first wife farmed near Bentley in Hancock County. In addition to being active in Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage, Luther Memorial Church in Quincy and Trinity Lutheran Church in Golden, he was member of numerous civic organizations including ATA, Golden Lions Club and Golden Windmill Historical Society. He was sexton of Trinity Lutheran Cemeteries in Golden. He enjoyed volunteer work with the Gideons, Prison Ministries and community services.
Services were held Sept. 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage with Rev. Greg Busboom officiating. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery near Bentley.
