Ruby Ellen Gilliland, 94, a longtime resident of Hamilton, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the Montebello HealthCare Center in Hamilton.
She was born April 30, 1908, in Hancock County, the daughter of Clyde and Martha "Mattie" Smith Galloway. She married Paul Gilliland on Dec. 4, 1938, in Palmyra, Mo. He died Oct. 4, 1978.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two sisters, Gladys Galloway and Leota Ketcham; and three brothers, Merlin, Frank and Wayne Galloway.
She was a longtime member of the King's Daughters of the Christian Church in Hamilton. She was a member of the Entre Nous Club of Hamilton, and a member of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Hamilton and Keokuk. She owned and operated the Hamilton Cafe in Hamilton for many years.
Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. at the Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton. Rev. Beth Rupe officiated. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.
