Leona "Noni" Gibson, 88, a lifetime resident of Carthage, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Heritage House in Carthage.
She was born on June 19, 1914, in Hancock Township, the daughter of Ralph and Pearl Gillenwater Johnson. She married Lloyd Gibson on Aug. 16, 1941, in Reno, Nev. He died March 2, 1980.
She is survived by one brother, William L. "Bill" (Maxine) Johnson of Carthage and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Sarrah Lucille Melvin and Lena Whitcomb; and two brothers, Stephen Johnson and Claude Johnson.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Carthage. She served as a Third Ward election judge for many years.
Graveside services were held Monday, Sept. 16, at Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage, with Rev. Beth Rupe officiating.
Memorials in the name of Leona Gibson may be made to the First Christian Church of Carthage, to Moss Ridge Cemetery, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Memorials may be mailed or taken to Lamporte Funeral Home, 405 Cherry Street, Carthage, IL 62321.
