Column 1Funeral Rites for
William P. Geddes
Are Held SundayFuneral services for William Paul Geddes, former Fountain Green resident, were held Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. in the Kilgore Memorial Home, the Rev. Elmer L. Castrodale officiating. Music was furnished by W. E. Lundeen with Mrs. Ralph Denison at the organ. Casket bearers were Brice Latherow, Clifford Latherow, Monte Geddes, Lawrence McConnell, Charles McConnell and Kay McConnell. Interment was in Geddes cemetery.
Mr. Geddes died Friday, May 3, in Alton, where he had been living for the past five years.
Born near Fountain Green, Jan. 22, 1872, he was the son of Robert P. and Elizabeth Brandon Geddes. On Aug. 12, 1896 he married Julia Saylors. They made their home in Fountain Green township, later moving to Peoria where he was a millwright.
After his wife's death in 1929, he returned to Fountain Green and lived with his cousins, Mary, Walter and Maurice McConnell. After they died he went to Chicago where he was employed at the Illinois Research hospital of the University of Illinois.
Surviving are a son, Robert, of Alton; two daughters, Mrs. Helen O'Neal of Carthage and Mrs. Ruth Tucker of Seal Beach, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Mary Abbott of Ontario, Calif.; six grandchildren and five great - grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; three brothers, Edward, Lynn and Charles and a sister, Mrs. Grace Mosley.
